About Micro Affluence
Dasar Kurnia founders, social entrepreneurs Nordin Abdullah and Anne Velu, have developed Dasar Kurnia as a social enterprise using the Micro-Affluence Model. Micro-affluence is working with small groups and developing their entrepreneurial skills to move them from subsistence to surplus with ripple effect and outflow to the broader community in which they live.
To ensure success there are measurable Key Performance Indicators which are developed in line with the goals of each project.
What is a Social Enterprise
A Social Enterprise is an organistion or business with a social mission which runs in conjunction with trading in goods and services for social purposes. Social Enterprises choose to deliver on financial, social and environmental performance targets and this is often referred to as having a triple bottom line. The integration of positive developmental social values and ethical business practice is integral to a social enterprise and the practice goes further than that of just corporate social responsibility or citizen enterprises.
For the most part the profit or surplus from the business is used to support related or unrelated social aims or the further development of a disadvantaged society. Sometimes the business itself accomplishes the social aim through its operation, with the employment of people from a disadvantaged community or a disadvantaged group within a community. Financial assistance is also part of the operation with financial grants or the awarding of contracts to individuals and existing businesses that are experiencing difficulty in securing investment from banks and other mainstream lenders.
